Billed against collected
What you billed, what was adjusted off, and what actually arrived are three numbers. Treating them as one gives you a profit figure that is not real.
In Matt's words
You shouldn't have to guess whether your chiropractic practice is actually profitable. We provide bookkeeping and financial reporting designed to help chiropractors understand cash flow, expenses, payroll, profitability, and the numbers driving their practice.
With accurate books and easy-to-understand financial reports, you'll know what's working, where money is being lost, and where opportunities exist to grow.
Spend less time worrying about your books and more time growing your practice.
What that means month to month
Same monthly work as any practice, pointed at the things that decide whether a busy month was a good one.
What you billed, what was adjusted off, and what actually arrived are three numbers. Treating them as one gives you a profit figure that is not real.
Money taken up front for care not yet delivered is not this month's revenue. Recorded properly it stops a strong month flattering you and a normal one looking like a fall.
Classification, payroll and the cost of an associate against what they actually bring in. Worth knowing before the second one.
A new table or a decompression unit is a five figure call with a tax consequence. Know what it does to your numbers before you sign.
Rent and payroll are usually the two biggest lines. Tracked against production so you can see when the practice has outgrown the room.
Plain statements with this month against last, and against the same month last year. No accounting shorthand to decode.
Where it goes next
Accurate books are the floor, not the point. What most practice owners actually want is somebody who will look at the numbers with them once a month and say what they mean.
That is fractional CFO work, and it is built on the bookkeeping underneath, so nothing has to be explained from scratch before the useful part starts.

Common questions
Yes, and specifically the gap between what gets billed and what gets paid. Insurance adjustments, cash plans and prepaid care packages all behave differently in the books, and a bookkeeper who has not seen them before will learn on your file at your expense.
Simpler in one way and not in another. You lose the insurance aging problem, which is genuinely easier. You gain prepaid care plans, where money arrives long before the care is delivered, and recording that correctly is what stops your monthly numbers swinging for no real reason.
That is exactly the kind of question the monthly conversation is for. It needs their production, their full cost including payroll taxes, and what they do to your capacity and your room. Once the books are clean the answer is usually clear.
No. Being behind is the normal starting point and catching up is part of the work. Cleanup gets quoted separately so you can see what it costs on its own.
Get started
Twenty minutes on what you run and how the books are kept now. Then a look at the file before any number gets quoted.
